    Description

    Teton-Bond™ 130 Petrobond Casting Sand (10lb bag)
    Teton-Bond™ 130 Petrobond Casting Sand (10lb bag)
    Overview
Teton Supply Co™ Teton-Bond™ 130 is a high-performance Petrobond®* clay based foundry sand that is professionally formulated, produced, and quality inspected in the USA. Made with 130 Mesh Silica for general purpose use on smaller castings (up to 6").
    Applications
-Molds for Precious and Non-Precious casting (non-ferrous metals including gold, silver, aluminum, brass, bronze, zinc, etc)
-Use as a facing sand with other sand systems such as water-bonded greensand.
-Backing sand for delft-clay in order to increase delft clay utilization.
    Directions/Use Notes
-Sand should be riddled (broken up) prior to placing against pattern.
-Moderately heavy ramming or pressing is required for optimal mold performance.
-Appropriate mold release should be used with all patterns to avoid sticking and to maximize detail reproduction (Teton-Part™ or similar is recommended)
    Application Notes/Troubleshooting
Weak Sand Molds (can't pull pattern without mold collapse)
-Use adequate ramming pressure. Using hands and fingers alone will not provide sufficient ramming pressure.
    -Use quality parting/pattern compound.
-Use minimum of 3 degree draft on patterns.
-Pattern Surface finish is important. Rough patterns will require more than 3 degree draft.
Cold Sensitivity: Dry and Powdery Sand that does not hold form
    -Use and store above 65F
-Sand may become powdery or dry if exposed to cold.
Regenerating Sand (how to fix dry sand that has been exposed to cold)
-Add a tiny amount of isopropyl alcohol to the sand using a sprayer and mix well. Generally, less than 1/2 teaspoon Alcohol required for 10lb evenly spread through the sand.
-Always allow alcohol to evaporate completely before attempting to use sand.
    Excessive Smoking
-Allow molds to sit for sufficient time after pour to limit smoking
    Reusing Sand/Crust
-Sand is mostly reusable per casting.
-After pour, small amount of crust is formed around the casting.
-This crust is two parts: 1. Black sand. 2. Grey, "crispy" sand
-Only the grey sand that feels "crispy" next to the casting needs to be discarded.
-It is normal for a sand-pile to darken with use.
    Product Volume/Weight Info
-10lb of this product fills a volume of around 200 cubic inches (Approx 6"X6"X6" cube) when moderately rammed (packed).
